The goal is to understand, without judgment, the reasons behind thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that stand in the way of getting the most out of life. Along the way, symptom relief usually follows, through the path of greater awareness and a process of working through inner conflicts that may have been hidden from awareness for some time.
In both psychotherapy and in psychoanalysis, I work collaboratively with individuals to pinpoint the specific triggers and conflicts that underlie feelings, symptoms and problematic behavior, and to understand present difficulties within the context of previous life experiences. Often, these same difficulties may emerge within the therapy sessions themselves, giving us an opportunity to work with them in the “here and now, ” to bring about lasting change.
